We are incredibly proud to share that Fjellskål has been named “A Taste of the Coast – Fishmonger 2025”. This award means a lot to us, not only as recognition of the quality we deliver, but also as a tribute to our entire journey through almost five decades.
From our beginnings in a small stall at the Fish Market in 1976, to today's restaurant and seafood shop in Mathallen, we have always had one thing in focus: a passion for quality, craftsmanship and genuine seafood traditions. It has been our guiding star ever since the Fjellskål family welcomed their very first customers at the fish market.
Over these fifty years, much has changed in Bergen, in the seafood industry and in people's expectations of fresh fish. But the core of our work has remained the same: to deliver ingredients and flavors that show why our coastal culture is unique. Every day we work to ensure that the fish is as fresh as possible, handled with respect, and presented with knowledge and care.
The fact that we are now receiving this award is proof that our work matters. For us, this award is the result of a collaboration that extends far beyond our own walls:
Thank you to our fishermen and suppliers , who stand up in all kinds of weather and deliver the best ingredients the sea can provide.
Thank you to our wonderful colleagues , who work from early morning until late at night both at the fish counter and in the restaurant.
Thank you to our customers and guests , who have followed us through generations, recommended us, and who remind us every day why we love what we do.
The award inspires us to continue to carry on our traditions while developing, trying new things and constantly exploring how we can give people an even better seafood experience, whether they come to buy fish for their dinner table or to eat with us at Mathallen.
